“Great shop, I used to spend far too much time in there. Craig and Mark were great at ordering obscure stuff I'd vaguely caught the name of on Peel the night before.”
“The band's name pre-dated the Clail song by some years. I will leave it as a simple observation that the song appeared some time after the band sent a demotape to On-U Sound.
Although not tagged I see that My American Wife are in the same review. I don't remember if if was this TTAAL tape that contained the lyric "Yankee trouble and Yankee strife", which may or may not have been about that band, but it would be apposite.”
“I was there, too! Were they supported by A Flock of Seagulls (pre-hit)? The other gig I remember going to at Rotters was Killing Joke around the same sort of time.”
“I was part of The Site for a few years though had very little to do with organising this event. I remember being there, I think Tony Wilson gave some address or other. I remember little else and suspect I was drunk!”
“I was at the J&MC gig. I remember the hype surrounding them at the time and then someone being carried out with what might have been a broken limb. However, I think the unlucky punter slipped on the wet floor rather than being involved in some band fracas.”
“The band “Two Thieves and a Liar” had the name some time before the Gary Clail song. The Gary Clail song appeared a while after they sent a demo tape to On-U Sound!
I shared a flat in Moss Side with the guitarist and bass player in the band and knew the other members. They had a Debris flexi shared with Dub Sex (I may still have it.) They also promoted a gig at Cloud 9 with The Old Men and I'll Show Harry sharing the billing. I have the VHS of that gig.
I thought I saw all of their gigs being an occasional roadie but I don't remember this particular one.”
